Colour photos on plain white cards may not be secure enough for your organisation. Anyone with a computer and an ID Printer can create a legitimate looking ID card with ease.

Holographic Overlaminates
A photo and company logo printed on a plain white card has virtually no defense against counterfeiters. Using today’s digital technology it’s all too easy to forge legitimate looking IDs. The most secure feature available on the market today is a Holographic Overlaminate which will give an ID card a high level of protection by adding Visual Security Elements (VSEs) that are extremely difficult to forge even with the most advanced ID Printing technology. An overlaminate also makes cards more resistant to everyday wear and tear. The table below shows the different Custom Hologram options and what features are available with them.

Visual Security Elements or VSE’s are extra security features you can add to Custom High Secure Holograms which significantly increases the security of your ID Card making it much harder to tamper with or forge.

Custom Hidden Text
One of the most advanced covert VSEs that you can include in your High Secure Hologram. Custom Hidden Text is completely Covert (invisible). All alphanumeric data can only be viewed with a laser making it ideal for high level security applications. This example shows the word AUTHENTIC repeated within the hologram artwork.

Custom Nano Text
As the name suggested, Nano text is micro sized text viewable only under high powered magnification. Microscopic alphanumeric text is strategically placed within the thin lines of an art element. The example image below contains the word “VALID”. To make the nano text even more secure, this feature purposely has errors (VALDI) the spelling appears a few times to provide just one more level of covert detail to assist in verification of authenticity.

Custom Micro Text
This type of text can only be viewed under a microscope and is designated in the area within the fine line design (Guilloche). This VSE cannot be duplicated via dye sublimation, ink jet or laser printers making it an excellent covert feature for authenticating an ID.

Custom Pseudo Colour
Visually attractive and very effective element that is difficult to duplicate but easy to verify, when the card is tilted one way you see metallic holographic tones in the image, when tilted the other way you see saturated, true colours along with atomic numbers and other details. See the attached example image this card is angled to show the many varying flags of the world.

|
Custom Flip Image
An animation type of VSE that is extremely difficult to duplicate. It features left/right, top/bottom or any combination of opposite-facing artwork. In this example, the small globe flips from Eastern Hemisphere to Western Hemisphere when the card is tilted from angle to angle.

Custom Fine Line Design (Guilloche)
Complex fine lines give the illusion of motion when viewed at certain angles. These lines are much too small to be effectively reproduced on desktop printers. The lines can be easily verified by the naked eye with a simple turn of the card. In the example image, the lines appear to move around the globe and have clockwise and counter-clockwise movement.

Custom 2D/3D Ribbon
A complex background image, yet requires no special lights or readers to verify. The detailed artwork is a combination of sophisticated two and three dimensional flowing ribbons. In this example image the 2D/3D ribbon interacts and integrates with the other VSE’s providing full image coverage over the entire card.

Custom Morphine Images
Are graduating images which give the illusion of animation. This effect is very time consuming and difficult for ID card counterfeiters to duplicate. This example image shows the stars will appear from the inner star to the outer star, showing one star at a time as you tilt the card.

Other Security Features
If custom hologram is not the answer for you there are other security features that can be added to your photo ID card for the fraction of the cost of custom hologram. Holographic Foil cards provide a high level of protection by making their visual security elements part of the card itself or just below the surface.

Holomark and Verimark Cards
Unicard can supply your base card stock with an imbedded Holographic Foil. The Foil is embedded on the card, and the tamper evident image appears above the surface of the card. Your design must allow a clear spare around the mark for printing on these types of cards.

Holomark Cards add a custom graphic onto a holographic 3D foil. This is the same hot stamp process as the Verimark Card but instead uses a 3D holographic foil to embed your custom graphic into the card. Holomark cards are almost impossible to duplicate, yet easy to validate. Available in gold or silver.

Verimark Cards add a custom graphic on opaque 2D foil. A hot stamp will embed your organisations logo, text or graphic onto a silver metallic foil to produce an easy to verify visual counterfeit deterrent. Available in gold or silver.

Translucent and Metallized Foil Cards
For the look of the custom hologram without the large investment Unicard can add a translucent or metallized foil to the card. A Foil layering process will embed the desired image in the card and the tamper evident image appears below the surface of the card.

Translucent Foil Cards add a custom design with a translucent foil graphic embedded below the surface of the card. The design can incorporate customized visual security elements (VSE’s). Ideal for designs where printing will cover the cover the embedded image and create a translucent “watermark” effect on the card.

Metallized Foil Cards add a custom design with a metallized foil graphic embedded below the surface. Metallized Holographic Foil Cards are ideal for organisations that desire a sense of security and style in their cards.
